And if you prefer studying in your home in front of your computer rather than in a classroom, then finding an accredited online program will also be included in your vetting process. We will go over these qualifiers and others that you will need to include when reviewing pharmacy technician schools. Because they are not licensed, when dispensing prescriptions they must operate under the supervision of a licensed Camp Hill AL pharmacist. They must also have great customer service abilities because they will be working directly with customers. Their attention to detail must be accurate when preparing prescription medications per the pharmacist’s directions. And they need to have an in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology so that they can assist customers with understanding instructions for their medications in addition to other pharmaceutical information and literature. On the other hand, under no situation should they ever provide medical advice relating to prescriptions or anything else. All such questions should be handled by the pharmacist. A few of the common daily tasks a pharmacy tech might carry out are:

  • Welcome and assist customers with prescriptions and other questions
  • Dispense prescription medicines under pharmacist guidance
  • Enter customer and prescription information into pharmacy computer system
  • Contact customers when their prescriptions are ready for pick-up
  • Complete and submit customer insurance claim forms
  • Stock shelves and audit and control inventory

Due to the nature of their job, pharmacy technicians will spend the majority of their working day standing. And working weekends and evenings is also typical, especially for newer techs with lower seniority. But the reward for occasional tired and aching feet or occasionally having to work after hours is an extremely rewarding career helping customers with their health and well-being.

Numerous programs also include an internship at {an approved|an accepted Camp Hill AL pharmacy or similar facility. The second alternative is the Associate Degree program which usually involves about two years of studies. Pharmacist Tech Schools Online

Camp Hill AL student attending online pharmacy tech coursePrior to choosing a pharmacy tech online program, it’s important to realize that the majority of programs do require a portion of the training be completed in a clinical setting. This is commonly satisfied in a local Camp Hill pharmacy or health center through an internship program. Students in most cases will have the benefit of working under a seasoned pharmacy tech in order to get some work place experience. Fortunately the non-clinical portion of the training can be taken over the internet in your Camp Hill AL home or via any available computer. This alternative is more practical for most students, especially for those who continue to work while acquiring their certificate or degree. And online schools are often less expensive than classroom options. Tuition and expenses for commuting and study materials may be reduced significantly. With both the online and the clinical training, a complete education is provided. But not all online colleges are accredited, which is critical for securing employment and certification (more on accreditation later). So verify that any online program you are considering is accredited by an acknowledged accrediting organization, for instance the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). If you are disciplined enough to learn with a less supervised form of education, then online classes might be the ideal solution for you.

Pharmacist Technician Certifications Available

It is not required to earn certification in every state, but a large number of graduates of pharmacy tech programs elect to get certified so as to be more competitive in the job market. Also, a number of Camp Hill AL employers will only employ a technician that has earned certification. There are two organizations that provide certification:

  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

The NHA requirements are that the candidate be at least 18 years old, be a high school graduate, has completed a training program, and has one or more years of work experience. The PTCB just requires that the candidate has graduated high school and passes their exam. Recertification is mandated every 2 years by each program, which can be fulfilled by performing 20 hours of continuing education.

Questions to Ask Pharmacy Tech Colleges

Questions to ask Camp Hill AL pharmacy technician schoolsOnce you have decided whether you would like to attain a degree or a certificate, and if you prefer to enroll in an online college or go to classes on campus, you can begin to target your school options. There are numerous pharmacy tech programs to choose from in the Camp Hill AL area and throughout the USA, so you must create a list of qualifying questions so that you can contrast community colleges and technical schools. As we addressed in our introduction, you will most likely first start looking for colleges that are within both your financial resources and driving distance from your Camp Hill home. If you are willing to relocate or are going to enroll in an online pharmacy tech program, then location may not be important. But there are several other variables that you must consider in order to properly compare colleges. The following questions will assist you in collecting that information and help you to make your ultimate decision.

Is the Pharmacy Technician College Accredited? Many pharmacist technician colleges and vocational schools have obtained a national or regional accreditation. One of the most respected accrediting agencies is the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Colleges earning accreditation from the ASHP have been screened and certified to offer a complete quality education. Online schools may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which deals exclusively with online or distance education. Make sure to check that the degree or certificate program together with the school you pick are accredited by a U.S. Department of Education acknowledged accrediting organization. In addition to helping ensure that you receive a superior education, it may help in acquiring financial aid or student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited schools. Also, certification might mandate that the program of training is accredited. And many Camp Hill AL pharmacies will only hire entry level employees that have graduated from an accredited program.

Does the School Prep You for Certification? Certification is not required in all states, but a number of employers prefer that the technicians they employ be certified. The pharmacist technician school needs to prep its students to pass the PTCB or the NHA examination. Students interested in obtaining NHA certification will also need 1 year of professional experience. This condition can be satisfied by entering a school sponsored internship program.

Does the School Sponsor Internship Programs? As we previously discussed, the NHA requires 1 year of professional experience for certification, which can be met with an internship program. One of the best ways to obtain practical clinical experience as a pharmacy technician is to train out in the field. Most pharmacy tech degree or certificate programs also require practical training prior to graduation and an internship is an excellent way to satisfy the requirement. Check if the colleges have a working relationship with Camp Hill AL area pharmacies, hospitals, or clinics for internship programs.

Does the College Give Job Placement Assistance? Getting that first position in Camp Hill AL after graduation, particularly with no prior experience, can be a difficult undertaking without any assistance. Find out if the schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs. If they do, ask what their job placement rates are. A high job placement rate is an indication that the school has a good reputation within the profession generating appeal for its graduates. It also means that it has a large network of pharmacy relationships where it can refer graduates.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the college they choose will need to be within travelling distance of their Camp Hill AL residence. Students who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit far in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the schools you are reviewing what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to converse with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the pharmacist technician program as well.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the pharmacy tech program you ultimately select can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you decide to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Camp Hill AL area, make sure that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.

    Camp Hill, Alabama

Camp Hill is a town in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, United States. It was incorporated in 1895.[3] At the 2010 census the population was 1,014, down from 1,273 in 2000. Camp Hill is the home to Lyman Ward Military Academy.

On July 15, 1931, a white mob raided a meeting of the Alabama Sharecroppers' Union which was being held in a church in Camp Hill.[4] A shootout between the mob and union members followed; SCU member Ralph Gray was murdered, several men and women were injured, and at least thirty black men were later arrested (at least four others were lynched).[4] According to Hosea Hudson, all those arrested were eventually released without trial due to public and international pressure—albeit too late to have a chance at raising a crop that year.[5]

As of the census[9] of 2000, there were 1,273 people, 519 households, and 337 families residing in the town. The population density was 140.4 people per square mile (54.2/km2). There were 614 housing units at an average density of 67.7 per square mile (26.1/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 84.92% Black or African American, 14.38% White, 0.31% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
