On the other hand, under no circumstance should they ever offer medical advice pertaining to prescriptions or anything else. All such questions should be addressed by the pharmacist. A few of the common daily functions a pharmacy technician may carry out are:

  • Greet and help customers with medications and other questions
  • Prepare prescription medications under pharmacist guidance
  • Enter customer and prescription data into pharmacy computer system
  • Phone customers when their medications are prepared for pick-up
  • Prepare and submit customer insurance claim forms
  • Re-supply shelves and monitor and manage inventory

Due to the nature of their profession, pharmacy techs will spend most of their working day standing. And working evenings and weekends is also typical, especially for newer techs with low seniority. But the payoff for occasional tired and aching feet or at times being required to work after hours is a very satisfying career helping customers with their health and well-being.
