While tuition and location are critical concerns when deciding on a college, they are not the only ones. Qualifiers including accreditation and reputation need to be considered as well. And if you are interested in attending classes in your home in front of your computer rather than in a classroom, then searching for an accredited online college will also be included in your vetting process. We will address these qualifications and some others that you will need to include when comparing pharmacy technician schools. But to begin with, let’s take a look at what a pharmacy tech does, the diploma and degree options available, and the benefits of online classes.

The Responsibilities of Pharmacy Techs

Riverton WY pharmacy tech filling prescriptionPharmacy techs have many job functions, but their main responsibility is to dispense prescription medications. Because they are not licensed, when filling prescriptions they must operate under the management of a licensed Riverton WY pharmacist. They must also have great customer service skills since they will be interacting directly with customers. Their attention to detail must be accurate when preparing prescription drugs per the pharmacist’s instructions. And they must have a comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology so that they can assist customers with understanding directions for their prescriptions as well as other pharmaceutical information and literature. On the other hand, under no circumstance should they ever offer medical advice concerning medications or anything else. All such questions would be addressed by the pharmacist. A few of the regular daily tasks a pharmacy technician might carry out are:

  • Welcome and assist customers with prescriptions and other questions
  • Fill prescription drugs under pharmacist direction
  • Input customer and prescription information into pharmacy computer system
  • Call customers when their prescriptions are prepared for pick-up
  • Complete and submit customer insurance claim forms
  • Re-supply shelves and audit and control inventory

Due to the nature of their profession, pharmacy techs will spend most of their working day on their feet. And working weekends and evenings is also typical, particularly for newer technicians with lower seniority. But the reward for occasional tired and aching feet or at times being required to work off-hours is an extremely rewarding career assisting people with their health and well-being.

This is typically fulfilled in an area Riverton pharmacy or health center through an internship program. Students in most cases will have the opportunity to work under a seasoned pharmacy technician so as to acquire some work place experience. However the non-clinical portion of the training can be taken over the internet in your Riverton WY home or via any available computer. This alternative is more practical for many students, particularly for those who keep working while acquiring their certificate or degree. And online programs are sometimes less expensive than traditional options. Tuition and expenses for commuting and course materials can be decreased substantially. With both the online and the clinical training, a complete education is provided. But not all online schools are accredited, which is essential for obtaining certification and employment (more on accreditation later). So check that any online school you are looking at is accredited by an acknowledged accrediting agency, for instance the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). If you are dedicated enough to learn with a less formal type of education, then online classes may be the right option for you.

Additionally, many Riverton WY pharmacies will only hire a tech that has earned certification. There are 2 organizations that provide certification:

  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

The NHA requires that the applicant be 18 years or older, has graduated from high school, has finished a training program, and has one or more years of professional experience. The PTCB just requires that the candidate has graduated high school and passes their exam. Recertification is called for every 2 years by each program, which may be met by performing 20 hours of continuing education.

    Riverton, Wyoming

The city is an incorporated entity of the state of Wyoming. The community was named Riverton because of the four rivers that meet there.[6] The town was built on land ceded from the Wind River Indian Reservation in 1906, a situation that often makes it subject to jurisdictional claims by the nearby Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes.

A legal ruling on November 7, 2017, by the 10th Circuit Court, ruled again in the EPA reservation boundary dispute. Though the decision was complex, the 10th Circuit Court answered plainly. Riverton is not on the reservation. The 10th Circuit's decision is now official and final after the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals 2017 ruling. The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the decision of the EPA, and held that the land had been ceded in 1905 by an Act of Congress. This ruling ends the dispute, bringing the debate and controversy to an end.[7] On August 21, 2017 a Total Solar Eclipse went over Riverton.

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 10,615 people, 4,252 households, and 2,600 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,076.6 inhabitants per square mile (415.7/km2). There were 4,567 housing units at an average density of 463.2 per square mile (178.8/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 83.5% White, 0.5% African American, 10.4% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.8% from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.0% of the population.
